My name is Deepak Mehta and i am based in New Jersey, USA.
Before starting my entrepreneurial journey in 2022, i had already spent around 15+ years in IT working across different countries.
Now i am back in US working full time as PM for a large bank however I love picking up side projects and working on new ideas.
In 2022, i started by acquiring two microsaas projects actions.so and chartmat.com which I sold in 2023 and early 2024 respectively.
Both of them were sold for 5 figures.
Currently working on a design tools directory bestwebdesigntools.com and h1bvisahub.com job portal for a niche.
However I love bouncing off new ideas and collaborating with new folks.
What was your product? Who is it meant for? What problem does it solve?
Two projects i sold one was notion based widget maker with around 3000 users and another one was no code builder for google sheets.
First product was meant for notion freelancers and second one was targeted for google sheets b2b users mainly agencies and freelancers.
How did you come up with the idea for your product?
It took me 1-2 months of research and patience before i found what products i want to buy. I was mainly looking to aquire as i didn't wanted to spend time building MVP and quickly test the market.
How did you get your first 10 paying customers?
Actions.so which was notion related product wasn't monetized when I acquired it.
So I introduced pricing plans as soon I acquired and mainly starting tweeting about it.
Soon we got our first 10 customers, mainly via twitter.
For chartmat, i hung out on facebook groups where I found most of the customers.
What's your business model and How much revenue does your product make?
Actions.so wasn't monetized when I aquired after I aquired it , was able to get to a $500 MRR in quick few months and sold it within 6 months of 3x times the original purchase price.
It was mainly yearly and monthly subscription plans starting as low as $6
Chartmat was making $300 when I acquired it and by the time I sold it , it had already done around $ 30K ARR.
It was subscription model but I also did a lifetime deal for short span of time to get quick cash.
Can you share the exit number ?
I exited both in 5 figures , one was 3x times the original purchase price and second one almost 2x.
Planning to keep doing it with my current projects as well.
What are your plans for the next 6-12 months?
Plan is keep looking some good projects to acquire.
Until I get something exciting I will keep working on the job portal and design tools directory. Although i would eventually exit these.
Do you have any advice for aspiring founders a few steps behind you?
From acquisition perspective I can probably give some advice to non tech founders who are just starting out in their entrepreneurship journey.
Start small and simple, pick a product which you can easily understand and market well. Remember initially it is always learning therefore starting small is key
Talk to existing customers of the product before buying as you might learn which wasn't shared with you earlier.
Verify the numbers yourself via accessing the dashboard. Also guage the founder and only buy if he is supportive and willing to support you throughout.
Please share your other projects and social media handles
