So last week we finally announced OutlierKit to the public.
Me, Aditi and Jose had been building it in stealth for almost 6 months. And now finally we felt confident enough to share it with the world.
Here’s the launch tweet -
I don’t know if OutlierKit will be a successful business or not in the long term.
Something like 95% of startups fail.
So the odds are stacked against us right from day 1. And yet, we’re betting on this idea.
There are no certainties in business, only bets.
I’ve tried to jot down a rough thesis for why we’re taking this bet, and why I think OutlierKit will work out eventually.
Let’s call it-

The Bull Case for OutlierKit:

YouTube is the Future

Video is the future, and YouTube is the platform creators need to build their audience on.
It's the best way to build an authentic audience with long-form content that trusts you and really wants to support you as a creator.
It makes way more sense to build a YouTube audience today than on any other platform.
And if that's the future, then we want to help creators find alpha on YouTube - find unique angles, hooks, scripts.
Find what's working so they can do it better and build an authentic, engaged audience.
Outlier videos are literal alpha on YouTube - potential that has not been tapped yet
That’s where the outlier feature and its name of the product comes from.

Time Becomes our Moat.

This idea gets better with time because data becomes a moat.
The longer we stay in business, the longer we mine YouTube data, the more patterns we find about what works.
2 things happen -
  1. Our product becomes better for current customers.
  1. And it becomes harder for competitors to catch up with us.
New players will find it increasingly difficult to enter the market.
This is not a weekend project or a chatGPT wrapper someone can vibe code with Lovable in a hackathon.
There’s heavy data engineering going on under the hood. And the more time (and data) with feed the beast, the stronger it becomes.

Data is everything in an AGI world

Staying on data for a bit.
In the long term, when AI takes over everything, companies will be built around only 3 vectors:
  • Compute
  • Energy
  • Data
Everything else will be a wrapper around these 3.
First-party data is going to become incredibly valuable.
There's massive alpha waiting to be unlocked just because you own data that you've collected yourself.
As a small, bootstrapped startup, we might never be able to compete with big players on compute or energy.
But on data, we CAN carve a niche for ourselves and compete.. at least to some extent.

That's the thesis behind Outlier Kit and why I'm bullish on building this business right now.
As I said, there are no certainties, only bets.
Lets see how this bet pans out 🤞

If you’re looking to grow on YouTube, check out OutlierKit and see if it can help you.
